Established by: This scholarship was established by the students of Dr. Alvin Keller to recognize excellence in anyone are acting, directing, dance, design, technical theatre or stage management. Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing or graduate students in the Theatre Dance, in the Design Technical Production concentration, studying costume design or makeup design. Open to: This scholarship is open to continuing theatre or dance major students with an emphasis in Design and Technical Theatre. Open to: This scholarship is open to new and continuing technical theatre and design major students who are pursuing an or graduate degree with an emphasis in lighting design.

College Department Fellowships

Charles Irwin Wright established this scholarship in memory of their son, who received both a baccalaureate and master’s degree in applied piano at the university and was a specialist in both opera and church music. Hanna Centennial Endowed Scholarship in Drama For incoming graduate majors in the Theatre and Dance. Any promising graduate student interested in drama for young people is eligible. Moll Endowed Presidential Scholarship in Drama This scholarship was established in memory of James W. Leon Scholarship in Classics and Mildred Masters McCarty Scholarships in Greek and Latin are available to graduate students in the Classics.

Art Design

This $1,000 scholarship is used to honor an outstanding junior or senior from the Industrial Design program who demonstrates the most ability to produce significant designs to benefit society through improvement of life and sustainability. This scholarship is awarded each year to a sopho in Industrial Design to provide assistance with tuition in their junior year. During the admissions process the Art Design graduate committee selects outstanding applications for nomination for several different Fellowships. Incoming new MFA students can be nominated for the Art Design Avery Fellowship, Petullo Fellowship, or a Creative and Performing Arts Fellowship. The university MFA, MA and PhD programs all have Block Grant funding, which is specifically designated for graduate recruitment and support.

Applying to the Creative Writing Fellowships

To be eligible, applicants must have completed or be scheduled to complete an MFA or PhD in Creative Writing by August 15 of the fellowship year. To be eligible for a Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing fellowship, applicant must have completed an MFA or PhD in Creative Writing by August 15th of the fellowship year. Unfortunately, the University of Wisconsin-Madison is not able to award fellowships to persons with PhDs in any other area, including English literature, composition, theater, or other areas of English or theater studies. Although in the past the university did give fellowships to persons with MAs in creative writing, University of Wisconsin-Madison has changed that rule as the MFA has become the standard terminal degree in creative writing.

Tuition and Scholarships

This scholarship is designed to help a student become successful in a career focused on one aspect of art or design. Daonne Huff MFA Art Design As of Fall 2.16, all incoming MFA Art Design students will receive scholarship equivalent of full out-of-state tuition in the first year and full in-state tuition for the second year of the MFA program.

MFA Funding

If applicant join the university two-year MFA program, applicant will receive fellowship support and or teaching income in the amount of $20,000 each academic year, as well as full funding of their tuition, enrollment fees, and the health insurance premium for single-person coverage through the university. The university know of few MFA programs in the country that offer such an opportunity to graduate students. Approval for a third year of teaching will depend on performance in the MFA program, teaching evaluations and demonstrated commitment to teaching, and, of course, successfully defending a thesis at the end of the university second year.

Graduate Tuition and Financial Aid

Tuition is charged as follows for students enrolled in the Master of Music, Doctor of Musical Arts, Performance Diploma, or Artist Diploma programs. Please note that Post-Baccalaureate Graduate Certificate students in Graphic Design are not eligible to receive federal financial aid at this time.

Deadlines and Financial Information

The total value per year of an assistantship for MFA students is $38,415 for out-of-state students, or $22,427 for in-state students. Assistantship assignments vary among teaching, assistant teaching, facilities management, publicity, scene shop, costume shop, and computer labs.
