National International Scholarships and Fellowships

German Studies Research Grant Funding for research in the US or Germany in all areas of contemporary German Studies. Rhodes Scholars are elected for two years of study at the University of Oxford, with the possibility of renewal for a third year. A Rhodes Scholarship covers the full cost of study at Oxford: tuition, all related fees , a maintenance stipend, and travel expenses to and from Oxford. A separate program, Rotary World Peace Fellowships, supports two-year master degree programs in conflict resolution, peace studies, and international relations at a Rotary Center for International Studies. Scholars may focus on public policy, economics and business, or international studies. Students in their first or second year of graduate study are eligible. Soros Fellowships fund up to two years of graduate study.

FLAS fellowships may be used to fund academic year study abroad pending approval of the study abroad program by the the students.S. Education. The scholarship supports semester or academic year-long study at recognized Danish institutions of higher education in the fields of humanities and social sciences, as well as in architecture, engineering, technology and related fields. The Icelandic Ministry of Education, Science and Culture awards annually a number of scholarships for studies in Icelandic as a second language at the University of Iceland, Reykjavík. The scholarship program is administrated by the Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies. The American Scandinavian foundation offers grants and fellowships for studies, research or art projects in Scandinavian countries for up to one year.

Germanic Languages and Literatures at Illinois

The Germanic Languages and Literatures offers many forms of support for admitted graduate students. Graduate teaching assistants are essential to the program of instruction of the Germanic Languages and Literatures. The University of Illinois makes available on a competitive basis a number of generous fellowships in support of graduate study and research. The Department selects graduate students each year to study at the university exchange universities: Göttingen, Greifswald, and Heidelberg. Since the primary purpose of financial aid is to enable students to pursue graduate studies toward a degree, all financial aid is contingent upon the student maintenance of normal progress toward a degree.

Germanic Slavic Languages Literatures

Students of German are eligible for a wide range of scholarships and grants awarded by national and international organizations, as well as by the governments of the US, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. German Studies Research Grant DAAD for 1-2 months. These are sponsored by the US government for study or teaching in a German-speaking country, usually for a year. The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals is a fellowship funded by the German Bundestag and the students.S. State, that annually provides 75 American and 75 German young professionals, between the ages of 18½–24, the opportunity to spend one year in each other’s countries, studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program.

Education Abroad Financial Aid and Scholarships

The Sherry L Jones Study Abroad Education Scholarship was established to assist students with a study abroad opportunity. Criteri Must be majoring in a course of study in the College of Education must be enrolled in a study abroad program through BGSU must demonstrate financial need. The program begins in July and includes two months of intensive German language training in Germany , four months of classroom instruction at a German university or college of applied sciences, and a five-month internship in a participant career field. Funding for research in the US or Germany in areas of contemporary German studies. Duration Amount National Society of Collegiate Scholars awards one $5,000 award each semester for study abroad, and one $2,500 award for summer abroad.

Knobloch Scholarship is for declared majors or minors of French Studies, German Studies, Russian Area Studies, Chinese Area Studies, Latin American Studies and or Hispanic Studies. The Friends of Milan Kovacovic Scholarship is for declared majors or minors in French Studies. Students with a strong academic record are eligible to apply for these scholarships whether or not they are going abroad, although preference will be given when possible to those planning to study abroad in an approved program. Conant Scholarship is for declared majorsor minors in German Studies, and carries a stipend of $2,000. The Arnoldo and Neva Hax Scholarship in German Studies is for students enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts studying in the area of German Studies.

Germanic Languages and Literatures at Illinois

Swedish Institute Fellowships for the Study of Swedish in Sweden. The Swedish Institute has generously provided funding for several students in the Swedish language program to pursue summer language study in Sweden over the past years. The University of Illinois offers many scholarships for study abroad, including in Scandinavia. Graduate students from a wide range of fields each year to the following prestigious fellowship programs for study abroad in Scandinavia. FLAS awards provide summer or academic-year support for intermediate to advance language study. Applications for FLAS fellowships must be submitted through the Germanic Languages and Literatures. The fellowship provides support in the amount of $10,000 for study and research on Swedish language, literature and society.

DAAD Graduate Study Scholarships The German Academic Exchange Service -DeutscherAkademischerAustauschdienst offers scholarships to highly qualified students for independent study or to complete a full Master degree at universities or institutes in the Federal Republic of Germany. DAAD German Academic Exchange Service Study Scholarship for Artists and Musicians These scholarships aim to provide highly qualified students in the fields of fine art, design, film, music, choreography and architecture with an opportunity to complete a program of additional studies, with or without earning a formal degree, at a German institute of higher education. Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship Every year, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi awards sixty Fellowships of $5,000 each and forty Awards of Excellence of $2,000 each to members entering the first year of graduate or professional study.

Boren Fellowships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide unique funding opportunities for US graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to US interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
