Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

Active Learning in Higher Education is an international, refereed publication for all those who teach and support learning in higher education and those who undertake or use research into effective learning, teaching, and assessment in universities and colleges. The Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning is a forum for the dissemination of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in higher education for the community of teacher-scholars. The Journal of University Teaching and Learning Practice is a tri-annual, peer-reviewed journal publishing papers that add significantly to the body of knowledge describing effective and innovative teaching and learning practice in the higher education environment.

Engaging Scientists Engineers In Policy Coalition

ASHG Genetics Education Fellowship - This is a fellowship program designed for genetics professionals with an advanced degree who are early in their careers and interested in the development and implementation of national genomics literacy efforts, informal science education, science education policy, program development, or science education research. Science Technology Policy Institute Fellowship - This two-year fellowship provides recent bachelor’s degree recipients with a unique opportunity to use their critical thinking and analytic skills to work on a diverse set of challenges in science and technology policy areas, including energy and the environment, space sciences, innovation and competitiveness, evaluation, life sciences, information technologies, national security, and STEM education.

Experiential Learning Fellowships

The objective of the Experiential Learning Fellowship is to encourage and support individual student projects in the humanities, arts, and social sciences for the purpose of providing opportunities for experiential learning to students seeking a major or minor in the College of Arts and Sciences. Accessing Funds: Recipients of an Experiential Learning Fellowship will access funds on a reimbursement basis through the dean’s office in the College of Arts and Sciences. Progress Report Requirements: Experiential Learning Fellowship recipients are required to report on their completed projects and fellowship experiences at a forum open to the University community.

Scholarship of Learning Teaching

The university Path aims to expose students to the foundational principles that guide learning and teaching in medical education. Ross, PhD, MA, Director of Advancing Scholarship, and Co-Director of the Scholarship of Learning Teaching Path of Excellence. Explore options for engagement in the Scholarship of Learning and Teaching. John Burkhardt, MD, MA, Lecturer in Emergency Medicine and Learning Health Sciences, and Co-Director of the Scholarship of Learning Teaching Path of Excellence. The Scholarship of Learning Teaching Path will prepare interested students to lead change in the delivery, assessment and improvement of medical education, patient education and learning health systems.

UM-Flint Scholarship Summaries

University of Michigan–Flint Health Sciences Scholarship: Awarded to Genesee Early College student graduates who are enrolled full-time in the College of Health Sciences or in the sciences in pursuit of a health related profession. Kildee, Dale Edward Education Scholarship: Awarded to full or part-time or graduate students currently admitted in Education degree programs. Terrill, John and Lora Dorland Biological Sciences Scholarship Fund: Applicants should be either full or part-time Biology or Earth and Resource Science TCP students who plan to have a career in the sciences. Carl, Kathryn Education Scholarship: For students who are pursuing degrees in education.

Office of Distinguished Scholarships

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are sponsored by the National Security Education Program. The program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study in the arts, humanities and social sciences. John Watters, a second-year student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been recognized by the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation with an Honorable Mention. In addition to fully funding scholars’ tuition and living expenses, it also offers leadership development, individualized mentorship and experiential learning opportunities.

National Fellowship Opportunities

Gates Millennium Scholars The Gates Millennium Scholars program supports African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American and Hispanic American students with high academic and leadership promise who have significant financial need, in order to increase the representation of these target groups in the disciplines of computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health and the sciences.

The Graduate Teaching Fellowship Program is a collaboration between ASME and mechanical engineering departments to encourage outstanding doctoral candidates in Mechanical Engineering, particularly women and minorities, to pursue careers in engineering education. These include: computer science and engineering, electrical and mechanical engineering, physical sciences , mathematical sciences , business sciences , and service science, management, and engineering Watson Research Center invites applications for its Herman Goldstine Memorial Postdoctoral Fellowship for research in the mathematical and computer sciences. Eligible applicants for Hertz Fellowships must be students of the applied physical, biological and engineering sciences who are citizens or permanent residents of the United States of America, and who are willing to morally commit to make their skills available to the United States in time of national emergency.
