Scholarships Awards

As part of the sociology and anthropology student experience, students are eligible for scholarships through the McNair Scholars Program. McNair Scholar Victoria Abila, also an anthropology major and student worker in the department.

Service-Learning Fellowship Teaching Hub

They also receive an enhancement grant to design a new course or modify an existing one to include a service-learning component. UA students teaching children at the Druid City Garden Project. Many rural communities lack the necessary funding and expertise to prepare these documents.

Anthropology Scholarships

The Fellowship is awarded yearly to support a graduate student enrolled in the Anthropology in the Division of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences The Brown Endowment is given yearly to outstanding graduate students to pay for research related expenses. The Thomas Bogard merit scholarship is awarded each year to a junior anthropology major or a senior anthropology major who will be returning that has exhibited high academic achievement.

The Department of Anthropology normally offers funding for four years, usually in the form of graduate assistantships , to incoming graduate students. Recent and current Anthropology graduate students at the University of Iowa have received nationally competitive grants including National Science Foundation Doctoral Dissertation Improvement Grants, Dissertation Fieldwork Grants from the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research, and Dissertation Research grants from the Leakey Foundation, as well as funding from sources such as the Predoctoral Fellowship from the Ford Foundation, the Dissertation Writing Fellowship from the American Association of University Women, and the Graduate Research Fellowship Program from the National Science Foundation.

The GradFund Fellowship Advising Team

While at Rutgers, Tim has received a NSF Doctoral Dissertation Research Improvement Grant and multiple small grants. He also has an article forthcoming in English Literary History on monsters and versification in the work of Edmund Spenser. Jorie Hofstra is a PhD candidate in Sociology and a Fellowship Advisor at GradFund. Cathy has been awarded a Woodrow Wilson Dissertation Fellowship in Women’s Studies, a Congressional Research Grant from The Dirksen Congressional Center, and the Carrie Chapman Catt Prize for Research on Women and Politics.

Experiential Learning Fellowship in Anthropology Experiential Learning Fellowships

Plimpton Experiential Learning Fellowship in Anthropology was established in the spring of 2007. Funds from this endowment are used to provide for experiential learning opportunities to students majoring in anthropology.
