Depending on the income available from the endowment, one or graduate students in the Philosophy and Religion at the University of North Texas in the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will be given the fellowship each year. Be a current or incoming graduate student in the Philosophy and Religion at the University of North Texas.2. Be enrolled as a full-time student in the semester that the fellowship is given .3 to 9 hours depending on the student status), an.3. If acceptance is pending, students can still apply, but the final award of a travel grant is contingent upon acceptance for presentation. The scholar is selected by the Scholarship Committee of the Philosophy and Religion.

College Scholarships

Scholarships for the Philosophy and Religious Studies. A written essay with specific criteria determined by the Philosophy and Religious Studies Scholarship Committee. Recipient will be chosen by the Philosophy and Religious Studies Scholarship Committee. An essay is required in response to a question posed by the Philosophy and Religious Studies Scholarship Committee. The Philosophy and Religious Studies Scholarship Committee has the discretion of deciding the scholarship amount and number of scholarships to award each year. Applicants will be reviewed by the Philosophy and Religious Studies Scholarship Committee after essays have been submitted and read. The recipient will be chosen by the Paul Mundschenk Scholarship in Religious Studies Scholarship Committee. Scholarships are subject to funding availability from the Philosophy and Religious Studies Foundation.

Mary Olive Woods Scholarships

The Mary Olive Woods Academic Excellence Scholarship is for full time students with a declared major in religious studies enrolled in a philosophy course or a declared major in philosophy enrolled in a religious studies course. The Mary Olive Woods Academic Achievement Scholarship is for full time students with a declared major in religious studies or a declared major in philosophy and enrolled in a religious studies course. The Mary Olive Woods Academic Scholarship is for full time students with a declared major in religious studies or a declared major in philosophy and enrolled in a religious studies course.

Comparative Religion

The Cornelius Loew Study Abroad Grant supports eligible comparative religion or philosophy and graduate students to study or conduct research abroad. The Guntram Bischoff Graduate Professionalization Award was established to support the professional development of graduate students in comparative religion.

Fellowships Scholarships

Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences, and particularly to help Ph.D. candidates in these fields complete their dissertation work in a timely manner. The fellowships support study in a variety of fields, including economics, philosophy, law, political science, history, and sociology. Offers fellowships in diplomacy, conservation, women’s studies, and religion and ethics.

Philosophy Department Scholarships

Jolee Houx Philosophy Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Philosophy majors with at least a 3.0 GPA overall, and at least a 3.0 Philosophy major GPA. Whitcomb Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Philosophy majors or minors. Decisions concerning award of Whitcomb scholarship funds will be made based on academic excellence , demonstrated academic effort and improvement, financial need, or extracurricular contributions to the Philosophy program. Glen Tuchscherer Scholarship Fund: This scholarship is available for currently enrolled Religious Studies majors or minors. Decisions concerning award of Tuchscherer scholarship funds will be made based on academic excellence , demonstrated academic effort and improvement, or extracurricular contributions to the Religious Studies program. Preference in selection and award amount will be given to Religious Studies majors.

Political Philosophy Graduate Travel and Research Grant

The University Center for Human Values, along with the Program in Political Philosophy, offers Political Philosophy Research and Travel grants to Princeton University graduate students working on topics in political philosophy and enrolled in the departments that participate in the program In addition to a one-time book grant of up to $500, individual grants to be used in support of research of up to $2,000 are available to graduate students working on topics in political philosophy. Students in the five participating departments are eligible to receive Political Philosophy grants multiple times but the total amount of grants per student will not exceed $4,000 during their graduate tenure.

Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies

The Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies offers two endowed scholarships, four scholastic achievement awards, and membership in the Phi Sigma Tau Philosophy Honor Society and Alpha Epsilon Lambda Graduate Student Honor Society. This scholarship provides assistance for any education-related expenses, including but not limited to tuition, books, fees, and room and board for full or part-time majors in the Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Studies. Harrison Scholarship provides up to $3,000 per academic year and is to be used to provide financial assistance to students majoring in Philosophy or Interdisciplinary Studies who have demonstrated superior scholastic achievement so that they can complete their college education at UA Little Rock. These scholarships are open to any student, but strong preference is given to philosophy or music majors.

Fellowships and Grants

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships The NSF Graduate Research Fellowships are for students in the fields of mathematical, physical, biological, engineering, and behavioral and social sciences, including the history and philosophy of science. Newcombe Doctoral Dissertation Fellowships are designed to encourage original and significant study of ethical or religious values in all fields of the humanities and social sciences, and particularly to help PhD candidates in these fields complete their dissertation work in a timely manner. Awards are for $25,000 for 12 months of full-time dissertation writing on study of ethical or religious values in humanities or social sciences.
